Overshoot day

Today is Overshoot Day

Today is Earth Overshoot Day 2022, the day after which we've consumed all the resources that the Earth can regenerate in a year. This means that all the resources we'll consume from now until the year's end won't be regenerated.

In 2019, Overshoot Day fell on July 29th, and in 2020 on August 22nd, but the progress seen was reversed in 2021, when it fell on July 29th again. In 2022, this event has shown a further negative trend, advancing by just one day but indicating a worsening condition for our planet.

Currently, humans consume the resources of 1.7 Earths in a year. As if that weren't enough, the Global Carbon Project estimated a 6.6% increase in this figure in 2021.
